This story was inspired by a book called Where’s My Daddy by Shigeo Watanabe and suggested by Diane Briggs in her book Toddler Storytimes II.
A little dinosaur with a long neck was lost in the forest. He was looking for his daddy. he walked and walked and walked until he came upon a big orange dinosaur.
“Have you seen my daddy?” asked the little lost dinosaur.
“Is he big and orange with a duck bill like me?” asked the orange dinosaur.
“No, he isn’t orange and he doesn’t have a duck bill, either, ” replied the lost little dinosaur.
“Then I’m sorry, I haven’t seen him, “said the orange dinosaur as he plodded off into the forest.
The little lost dinosaur walked and walked and walked until he met a brown dinosaur.
“Have you seen my daddy?” asked the little lost dinosaur.
“Does he have spikes on his back and a long tail with spikes on the end?” asked the brown diosaur.
“No, he has a long tail but no spikes,” replied the little lost dinosaur.
“Sorry, I haven’t seen him, then, ” said the brown dinosaur as he went back into the forest.
So the little lost dinosaur walked and walked and walked while looking for his daddy. Soon he came upon a giant green dinosaur with long sharp teeth. The little lost dinosaur was scared but he asked in a shaky voice, “Excuse me, have you seen my daddy?”
“Roar! No, I haven’t!” growled the giant green dinosaur as he lumbered into the forest.
The little lost dinosaur was glad the big green dinosaur was gone as he walked and walked and walked, looking for his daddy. Soon, he met a flying dinosaur with pink wings and said, “Oh hello! Have you seen my daddy?”
The flying dinosaur replied, “I thought I saw a long-necked dinosaur a farther on into the forest. Good luck!” he said as he flew away.
The little lost dinosaur ran and ran and ran in the direct the flying dinosaur had pointed. After a while, he heard sounds in the forest. He hoped it wasn’t the giant green dinosaur with his giant teeth! He peeked through the trees and there was his daddy!
“Daddy! Where have you been? I’ve been looking all over for you!” said the little dinosaur, who was no longer lost. And his daddy gave him a big hug and a big kiss, MWAH!

I love your dinosaurs! Did you draw them yourself?
Thank you! I did, but I had Gail Gibbons’ Dinosaurs! open for reference the entire time.
Yes! I can the influence.
I’m impressed! I can’t draw anything on my own. :-/
K, I started with tracing and my confidence grew from there once I realized that regardless of how worried I was about the accuracy, the parents and kids were always impressed
Love this! Can’t wait to use it for Dinosaur storytime. All of my material involves roaring. This will be a nice change of pace.
this is so cute. But wait a second, it’s “Where’s My Daddy?” a story about a bear? did you change it to a dinosaur? THAT IS BRILLIANT!!!! I’m sorry, the original is a cute book, but this is (in my opinion) so much more interesting! i love this, and will be making it asap
Thank you! I think the original is kind of boring, but everyone loves dinosaurs!
Super cute dinosaurs! Love that you switched up the story AND created your own dinos… you’re awesome, did you know that?
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Liz! I think I needed to hear that today
So cute!! I just did a dinosaur storytime a few weeks ago, but it usually shows up at least twice a year. I will add this to my line-up.
